FROM LIEUTENANT GENERAL TY BURATAI CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF TO OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS OF THENIGERIAN ARMY It is with utmost humility and gratitude to the Almighty that I send this goodwill message to officers, soldiers and indeed the Nigerian Army family on the Christmas and New Year Celebrations. Let me use this opportunity to commend the efforts and sacrifices of our gallant officers and men currently engaged in the counter insurgency operations in the North East and other operations across the country and abroad. I congratulate you for your bravery, doggedness and loyalty in these endeavours. I want to urge you all to maintain the momentum and remain steadfast as we continue to professionally and responsively carryout our constitutional roles. On my part, I would continue to ensure that troops’ welfare and that of their families, remains my utmost priority. Let me reassure you of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing the Nigerian Army with the requisite support for us to perform our duties. The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR has pledged his total support to the Armed Forces to bring all ongoing operations to an end in favour of our dear country. This festive season heralds peace as well as a time for merriment, sober reflection and introspection. I enjoin us all to continue to pray to the Almighty God for the repose of the souls of our fallen comrades and the wellbeing of the families of our brave fallen heroes. The naira trades, sometimes 40% below the official rates, against the dollar. Adeosun said the CBN has been mandated to scrap the damaging market. The central bank (CBN) “has been directed to do this and CBN has promised to do something by putting a system in place to eliminate the black market because it’s damaging the economy”, Adeosun told a conference. A CBN spokesman, Isaac Okorafor, said the central bank was working towards “ensuring that the forex market operates as effectively as we would envisage”. He said the aim was to “ensure there is no black market” but did not give details of how this would be achieved. Brigadier General Victor Okwudili Ezugwu escape death from angry soldiers

Victor Ezugwu, the General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army 7 Division in Maimalari, escaped being lynched by rampaging Nigerian soldiers on Friday morning, PREMIUM TIMES can report. Details of the attempted assault on Mr. Ezegwu, a major general, by troops attached to ‘Operation Rescue Finale’ in Sambisa Forest, came a day after he denied our report about a mutiny on the battlefront. The troops were enraged over poor welfare arrangement and alleged deceit by their commanders, our sources recounted. Specifically, they accused the commander of leaving them to fight for two days without food. The incident occurred in Sambisa Forest on Friday morning, as this newspaper reported. Most of the soldiers involved in the mutiny were deployed to Sambisa from 21 Brigade in Bama, Borno State.
